At GOGOLI, craftsmanship is not simply about how a piece is made. It is the time given to it, the decisions made along the way, and the attention carried from the first stitch to the final finishing detail.
Our crochet and textile pieces are individually handcrafted in Türkiye using slow, hand-led techniques. Nothing is treated as part of an automated process. Each stitch, join, edge, proportion and construction detail is considered in relation to the finished piece as a whole.
Every design begins with a conversation between material and form.
Fine mercerised cotton may be selected for the clarity and delicacy it brings to lace. Smooth microfiber yarn may give open stitches a fluid surface and a gentle lustre. Wool blends offer softness and warmth, while firmer fibres can provide the structure and durability required by a bag, garment or household textile.
A material is chosen not only for what it is, but for what it allows the piece to become.
The techniques change with the design. Some pieces are crocheted in continuous rows; others are constructed from separate panels, Tunisian crochet sections or hundreds of individually worked motifs. Flowers, leaves and other appliqués may be made one by one, arranged directly on the finished surface and sewn into place by hand.
Colour may emerge naturally through a variegated yarn, develop through carefully placed sections, or be composed by working several threads together as though they were one. In certain GOGOLI pieces, a gradual transition from one shade to another is created during the making itself—through repeated decisions about when one thread should end and another should begin.
Time is part of this craftsmanship.
A large textile becomes heavier as it grows. Fine thread requires thousands of closely considered stitches. Complex motifs call for repeated yarn changes, careful joining and the finishing of countless individual ends. Some pieces are completed within weeks; others remain on the worktable through several months, summers and winters.
They are not delayed. They are being given the time their construction requires.
Materials are selected according to the structure, texture, durability and intended use of each design. Some GOGOLI pieces are created in very small quantities. Others may be made to order, subject to suitable yarn availability and the capacity of the studio. Even when a design is made again, its exact character cannot be reproduced mechanically. The fibre may fall differently. A motif may settle into a slightly different rhythm. A floral composition may find its own balance.
Because every piece is handmade, subtle variations in tension, texture, alignment, dimensions or placement may occur. These differences are not imperfections. Finishing is approached with the same care as the first stitch. Joining points, borders, closures, appliqués, proportions and the way the completed surface falls are considered as part of one continuous process. Garments and textiles are measured laid flat, and detailed guides are prepared so their true dimensions can be understood before they leave GOGOLI.
We do not rush the process or conceal the presence of the hand behind mechanical sameness. Each design is given the time and attention it needs, allowing the workmanship, material and individual character of the piece to remain visible.
